The Lillard & Woodard Cemetery is located one-half mile north of the intersection of Choctaw Road and N. E. 122nd. This is a small to medium-sized cemetery. The area was mowed when we visited, but there are several areas where trees and shrubs are still thick and those headstones are obscured.

Mamie Cato's headstone is a flat, double grey marker on the south side of the cemetery. She was born February 2, 1884 and passed away on September 28, 1988 at the age of 104. Her husband Julius passed away in 1952.

- Moses Walker became the first black player in major league baseball the year Mamie was born.
- She had just turned five when the Land Run of 1899 occurred.
- When Mamie was 12, the Tootsie Roll came on the market. I wonder whether she was lucky enough to have tried it.
- In 1917 when U.S. men began registering for the draft in WWI, did Mamie's husband join?
- Mamie was 40 the year Native Americans were declared U.S. citizens.
- When Mamie was 46, the first red and green traffic lights were installed in New York City. It would be many years before they showed up in rural Oklahoma.
- When she died in 1988, Mamie had seen WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. She'd seen the coming of Rock and Roll, the Hippies of the 1960s, the Beatles, and a Man on the Moon. What an amazing time to have lived.
