This Female California Grey Whale is next to the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History in Santa Cruz, California. She was commissioned by the Museum Association as an educational tool, and to stimulate interest in conservation issues.

She is constructed of a wood frame covered with strips of lathe and a layer of cement. The three dimensional eyes, mouth, etc. are created in cement.

in 2010, a renovation was completed to lengthen the life span of the sculpture by pumping ocncrete into the body cavity, and touching up exterior details of the eyes, mouth, barnacles and flukes.
