This Monument to the 86 Illinois Infantry Regiment is located on the side of Reeds Bridge Road in the Chickamauga National Battlefield. It marks their location from Saturday, September 19, 1863.

This monument is dedicated to the 86th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry and is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The 86th Illinois Infantry was organized at Peoria, Illinois and mustered into Federal service on August 27, 1862. It marks their location from Saturday, September 19, 1863. The commander of the 86th Illinois was Lieutenant Colonel David W. Magee.

Short Significance Description:

Marker contributes to national significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans & related groups to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description

7'6" x 4'4" x 4'6" rock-faced monument consisting of rectangular granite block with an inscribed polished front on granite base. The tops of both pieces are beveled. Marks unit's position during Battle of Chickamauga
