The Capital Branch of the Oklahoma Department of Libraries is named in honor of Jan Eric Cartwright, as per a resolution passed April 23, 1986. Jan was an active member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives for three years, served as Oklahoma Corporation Commission for three years, and served as the Oklahoma State Attorney General from 1979-1983.

One of most controversial opinions was that large corporations should pay property taxes to help support the school system. He was not always popular because of his beliefs, but he did earn the respect of his fellow politicians.
The final resting place of Jan Eric Cartwright is at the center of Rose Hill Burial Park, at the far southeast corner of section 15. Tall trees and beautiful landscaping is at the back of Jan's grave marker.
