Samuel Pedlar preserved this history and his Pedlar Papers are very thorough with the information he collected. Henry Pedlar on the other hand began the Pedlar People sheet metal business in 1861, but died before he could see how his son George H. Pedlar would bring it to prosperity. George was not only seen as an industrial leader of Oshawa but also an outstanding citizen as well. When it came to a job, George was a stickler for hard work. He expected a full day’s work for a full day’s pay.
Despite his hard work ethic, George was also mindful of employee welfare. As well as his business, Pedlar was a charitable man which made him a well respected citizen. Some of the donations he made were to the Salvation Army, YMCA, as well as a cash gift for a surgical wing at the Oshawa Hospital.
