This eagle tops a large column in the center of the campus of Hannam University. The monument was placed by university alumni to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the school.

Visible from roads coming from the main entrance and from right angles, this tall monument is mounted with this bronze eagle. The eagle is depicted with wings spread, as if to launch into flight, but perched on a small base on top of the column, facing west.
There are inscriptions ont two of the column sides, reading from top to bottom. On the south side is the school motto, "TRUTH FREEDOM SERVICE" (진리 자유 봉사). On the west side is the phrase, "THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH . . ." (그의뜻이이땅에도), a reference from the Lord's Prayer.
