Originally intended as a Millennium
celebration project by the Parish Council in the late 90's, the revamp of the
Parade, an area in front of the small row of shops in the High Street, took 10
years to fulfil. Various funding and planning setbacks meant that the
project was not completed until 2008, and after much hard work by many people to
keep the project on track. To mark the opening event on Friday 26th September
2008, Eastry Primary School
pupils were invited to bury a Time Capsule under a stone slab, marked simply
MMVIII, which they had filled with
memorabilia from the village and objects from the school to give an insight into
village life.
