Plainville-North Attleborough Roadstone on US Route 1 - MA - U.S. Historic Survey Stones and Monuments on Waymarking.com

Along US Route 1, on the west side of the road, is a town line sign for the towns of Plainville and North Attleborough. About 50 ft north of this sign, and at the base of a telephone pole, is a granite marker that is a road stone that marks the same boundary.

The closest intersection is Everett Street, and is accessible safely only going south on the road and taking a right just after passing the monument and sign. You can park on Everett (NOT on US Route 1!!!) and walk back from there. Please be careful as Route 1 is a very busy road and there is no sidewalk.

The monument is about 2 ft high. On the north side is engraved the letter "W." On the south side of the monument is engraved the letters "NA." The town of Plainville was formed out of the town of Wrentham in 1890. Wrentham was established in 1673. North Attleborough was established in 1787. Thus, the range of dates this monument could have been established is 1887-1890, and, thus, the older date is used, below.

The monument also separates Norfolk County from Bristol County. The was originally established to define the boundary between Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth Counties, in 1664.
