The Victor Richardson gates were officially opened on 28 October 1967, and are the Eastern Gates to Adelaide Oval.
Vic Richardson was a leading allround Australian Sportsman from Adelaide, captaining the Australian Cricket team and the South Australian State Football team, as well as representing Australia in baseball, South Australia in golf, winning the South Australian state tennis title. Vic Richardson was also a leading local player in lacrosse, basketball and swimming.
The gates contain a plaque detailing Vic Richardson's sporting achievements as well as two sculptures by a leading Adelaide Sculpture - John Dowie.
One featuring Vic Richardson playing cricket, and the other of him playing football.
With recent work over the last few years, the gates framework and surrounding architecture has been modernised, and in my opinion have lost a little bit of character. With the new stand behind the gates, the iconic view into the oval has also been lost.
