This monument is dedicated to the
88th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The 88th Illinois Infantry was organized at Camp Douglas, in Chicago, and mustered into Federal service on September 4, 1862.
This marker marks their position from 11 am to 11:30 am on the 20th, 1863. This is one of two markers to the 88th located on the battlefield.

Short Physical Description
7'6" x 4'4" x 4'6" high rock-faced monument consisting of rectangular granite block with an inscribed polished front on granite base. The tops of both pieces are beveled. Marks unit's position on Sept. 20, 1863, from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.
