This Marker to the 73rd Illinois Infantry is located on a wooded path, on the east side of Lafeyette Rd, near the southern entrance to the Chickamauga National Battlefield Park.

This monument to the
73rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. This marker indicates the position of the 73rd at 5:00 pm on September 19, 1863. The 73rd Regiment Illinois was organized at Camp Butler, Illinois and mustered into Federal service on August 21, 1862. This is one of two markers to the 73rd Illinois on the battlefield.

Short Physical Description
2'6" x 1'2" x 2'6" high rectangular slab of dark Quincy granite. Rock-faced sides; polished & inscribed front. "Illinois" is in large raised letters on beveled top. Marks unit's position at 5:00 p.m. on September 19, 1863.
