"Santo Tirso receives every two years, five renowned sculptors for the International Sculpture Symposium that create, for the county, works of art that will add to the ones already placed in various locations around the city. Made from various materials - such as granite, typical of the region, or steel, marble or iron - the sculptures are part of a permanent outdoor exhibition that by 2009, will include 50 works of art unique, providing enjoyment public works, which transform the green spaces of Santo Tirso in gatherings of communication, in which there is an intimate and privileged relationship between sculpture, the medium and its audience. This may be the starting point for a tour today of Santo Tirso. Promoted by the Municipality of Santo Tirso, under national artistic director Alberto Carneiro and international Xuriguera Gerard, the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture (MIEC) in Santo Tirso already account for 39 of the 60 sculptures planned."
