This marker to the 4th Michigan Cavalry is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. It marks their postion during the night of September 18, 1863. This is one of two markers to the 4th Michigan Cavalry on the battlefield.

Short Significance Description:

Marker contributes to national significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents national movement among veterans & related groupds to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description

1'6" x 1'6" x 3' high, the marker is a simple rock-faced shaft with a smooth-faced, sloped top that carries an inscription. Marks unit's position on the night of September 18, 1863
