Tile Mural on the east and south façade of Ecran Building (Ecran=Screen), a residential building in Parque das Nações, Lisbon.
This tile mural decorates the entire south and east façades of the building. The artist playes mostly with geometric figures and colors. At the south east corner it looks like several blue rays that diverge from the bottom of the building to the top.
Across the east façade we find several abstract geometric compositions with diferent colors (mostly blues, greens and yellows).
Jorge Martins attended courses in Architecture and Painting at the Fine Arts School in Lisbon, between 1957 and 1961. In 1958 he got interested in the technique of engraving after an invitation of the master Julio Pomar. That same year he sets up his own studio and began his career as an artist. Since then, he has seen his work exhibited in Lisbon, New York, Chicago, Paris, Malmo, Brussels, among other cities.
His interest in literature led him to illustrate various works, such as "O Ciclópico Acto" (Cyclopean Act) by Luiza Neto Jorge, "Mensagem" (Message), by Fernando Pessoa or "O Livro das Sete Cores" (The Book of Seven Colors) by Maria Alberta Meneres and Antonio Torrado, with who he receives the Illustration Gulbenkian Prize for Children's Literature (among other prizes).
He´s best known work is the decoration of the Chelas metro station in Lisbon.
