The building

The University of Calgary Athletic Therapy clinic is located on the first floor of the Roger Jackson Centre for Health and Wellness (Sport Medicine Centre).

The University of Calgary Sport Medicine Centre provides the highest level of patient care. iTS physicians and experts provide services to Calgary's elite athletes - but you don't have to be an athlete to become a patient! The clinic is home to sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, full physiotherapy services, massage therapy services, athletic therapy, nutrition counselling and the acute knee injury clinic.

The Person

Roger Charles Jackson, OC was born January 14, 1942 in Toronto. He is a member of the Order of Canada, a Canadian academic and an Olympic gold medalist rower.

He won the only gold medal for Canada at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Rowing (pairs) with George Hungerford. They were also awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy in 1964. He also competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics and finished eleventh in the single sculls event. At the 1972 Summer Olympics he was a crew member of the Canadian boat which finished twelfth in the coxed fours competition.

He was the Director of Sport Canada and was President for three terms of the Canadian Olympic Committee. From 1978 to 1988, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. He was the founder and Director of the University of Calgary Sport Medicine Centre.

In 2005, Roger Jackson was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Own the Podium 2010.

In 1984, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 1964, he was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. In 2005, he was inducted into the University of British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame.

In 2009, he was named by CBC sports as one of the 25 most influential Canadians in sports for 2009.

Roger Charles Jackson has chaired the Cantos board of directors since 2003. The Cantos Music Foundation was created on January 1, 2003. It serves more than 60,000 people every year. They offer extensive education programs to school kids from kindergarten through to post-secondary. Kids learn science, math and social studies through music.
