In the 1970s, the city of Montgomery decided to revitalize the old riverfront area. This arch is over the 1897 tunnel under the railroad tracks. The tunnel allowed easier access to the commercial river traffic at the city wharves. Union Station can be seen to the left of the arch, which is located on Lower Commerce Street in downtown Montgomery.
