During the bicentennial year of 1976, Westfield celebrated its role in the American Revolution. The William Shepard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution erected a monument at the entrance to the historic Mechanic Street Cemetery, also known as The Old Burying Ground. The monument lists the names of all those from Westfield who participated in the Revolutionary War. The granite monument is inscribed:
