The plaque shows Madonna and Child with Cherubs and is a subtle yet detailed artwork. Nikolaus Pevsner describes this as one of the best pieces in the church from the Italian Renaissance period. It is a 'marble relief of the Virgin with a putto head below and two standing Angels from a Venetian group of the Mourning of the Dead Christ.' This is a quote from the book 'The Buildings of England, Dorset'.
The memorial reads:
'To the memory of
William George Cavendish Bentinck
elder son of
The Right Hon George Cavendish Bentinck P C
Born March 6 1854 Died August 22 1909
This ancient tablet has been placed by his
brother & sister.'
