La construction de Notre-Dame-des-Victoires fut engagée en 1629 par le roi Louis XIII, pour célébrer ses victoires contre les Protestants, notamment lors du siège de La Rochelle.
Après de nombreuses interruptions, elle est solennellement consacrée le 13 novembre 1740. L'église est pillée sous la Révolution puis sous la Commune.
Elle fut rendue au culte en 1802, puis érigée en basilique par le pape Pie XI en 1927.
L'église est le siège d'une archi-confrérie de la Vierge dite de Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs. D'importants pèlerinages s'y succèdent. Plus de 30000 ex-voto ornent ses murs.
La façade présente deux ordres, ionique au rez-de-chaussée, corinthien à l’étage, couronné par un fronton triangulaire arborant les armes de France enveloppées de drapeaux et de palmes.
Le chœur abrite sept peintures commandées à Carle Van Loo, peintre du roi Louis XV et exécutées entre 1746 et 1755.
Elle possède également de nombreuses boiseries finement sculptées.

The construction of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires was begun in 1629 by king Louis XIII, to celebrate its victories against the Protestants, in particular during the siege of La Rochelle.
After numerous interruptions, it is solemnly dedicated on November 13th, 1740. The church is plundered under the Revolution then under the "Commune".
It was returned to the cult in 1802, then set up as basilica by pope Pie XI in 1927.
The church is the siege of one extremely brotherhood of the Virgin said about Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs. Important pilgrimages succeed one another there. More than 30000 ex-voto decorate its walls.
The facade presents two orders, Ionic at the ground floor, Corinthian in the floor, crowned by a triangular pediment raising the weapons of France wrapped with flags and with palms.
The chancel shelters seven paintings commanded Carle Van Loo, painter of king Louis XV and executed between 1746 and 1755.
It also possesses numerous finely sculptured woodwork.
