How can you miss this gem in the middle of the road! Nice big monument to the soldiers and sailors who served in the Civil War right in the middle of the of Main st of this little town.

It has the following text on the monument.

LA FAYETTE COUNTY ERECTS THIS SHAFT IN MEMORY OF HER SOLDIERS AND SAILORS. DEDICATED OCT. 15 A.D. 1889

THEY DIED: THE NATION LIVES

IT SHALL SPEAK TO THE YOUND OF THE HONOR AND DIGNITY OF CITIZENSHIP OF THE PRICELESS COST OF COUNTRY AND UNION.

TO HONOR THE LIVING SOLDIER TO KEEP GREEN THE MEMORY OF THE HEROIC DEAD A GRATEFUL PEOPLE ERECT THIS MONUMENT
