Située à l'angle de la rue Molière et la rue Richelieu, la fontaine Molière forme un piédestal à la statue de Molière.
La fontaine Molière est due à l'initiative d'un sociétaire de la Comédie Française Joseph Régnier qui lança une souscription nationale.
Cette statue en bronze est l'oeuvre de plusieurs sculpteurs dirigés par Louis Visconti. Elle fut inaugurée en 1844.
Molière, sculpté par Gabriel Seurre, est représenté assis, la plume à la main.
Derrière lui, une niche est encadrée par quatre colonnes corinthiennes cannelées, qui soutiennent un fronton circulaire.
Le socle de la statue de Molière est soutenu par les allégories de la "Comédie sérieuse" et de la "Comédie légère" sculptées par Pradier.
