This is the famous Round Church of Northampton. Based on a plan of the original Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem it was built in 1100 on the orders of the first Earl of Northampton, Simon de Senlis, who had just returned from the first Crusade. The tower has been added to the 'round' nave and this bolt and cut-mark are to be found to the right of the west door into the tower about 0.8m above ground level between the two rows of chamfered stone.

It was last verified in 1960 at 83.2104m above Newlyn Datum.
