Wellington Barracks run parallel with Birdcage Walk and at the eastern end is an area that the public may enter to visit the Guards' Museum. At the back of the public area, between the Museum and Chapel, in a quiet area, is where the bench is located.

The plaque dedication reads:
"In Memory of / William, Marquess of Hartington / Coldstream Guards / Killed in Action Whilst Serving With 5th Battalion / Belgium September 1944 / This seat is given by his brother and sisters / Andrew, Elizabeth and Anne".
