As I was parking the car and getting ready to explore the village of Vila Alva I spotted the communal wash house and it was just awesome! Freshly painted - actually I later saw some picture showing the building painted in yellow - it's extremely complex, accordingly to Portuguese patterns. There is an outer tank, and then a second one with a roof. I would add that only the later would be used for washing (and still is, I think).
There is a date painted in the building: 1889. Actually, 1st August 1889.
