This glacier is one of the very few glaciers in the planet which drop below the tree line. This unique characteristic gave its own name. “Bossons” is patois for the French word “buisson” or “bushes”. There were times this glacier ended in the bushes, where the forest met the valley floor.
Bossons glacier is a twin of Courmayeur Glacier which descends towards Italy. Global warming is melting most of the ice mass, leaving behind just a dry gravel bed and flooding down coastlines on the other side of the Earth.
The easiest way to access Bossons Glacier is to park at N 45° 53.954; E 006° 51.290 and hike from hear.
