"It was near this site on July 22, **** that Captian Gaspar de Portola joined by 63 men and two priests, stepped into history by crossing the Arroyo Trabuco during the first Spanish expidition into Alta California. Today, June 8, 1992, the County of Orange, the City of Mission Viejo, Santa Margarita Company, and Rancho Mission Viejo joined together to mark the historical signifigance of this site; and with the opening of Oso Parkway Bridge, recongize its importance as a major crossing for today's and tomorrow's generations."
