This public access area was purchased by the Western Pennsylvania Conservency as two separate tracts. The 170 acre Rawa tract was purchased in 2000 and the 307 acre Bacon tract in 2001 as part of their French Creek Project. The property was then conveyed to the Pennsylvania Game Commission which owns a large area surrounding this land.
The primary use for this area is bird hunting since it is mainly open field. During the spring thaw and heavy rain, this area floods due to the Army Corps of Engineers Union City Dam. The dam is used for flood control of French Creek and is located approximately 5 miles to the east
