The region of Peniche and Atoughia da Baleia is a very windy region. The wind is not very strong but it´s continuos wich is good to keep the windmills running for long time. This feature made this region very popular in windmills and even today it´s easy to find windmills in good condition and some of them are still working. The ones working don´t do it in a commercial way and work mostly of them due to the will of the sons of the old millers who learned the job while they where kids and now keep them working as a memorial to the old times.

In this tipe of windmills the roof moves to align the sails with the wind.

This mill doesn´t work anymore. Normally, when the sails are removed it means the windmill will no longer be used.
