Showman's Rest is an area in Mt. Olivet Cemetery that is set aside to honor circus performers, those involved with running the circus, and professional rodeo riders. This designated area is on the far north side of the cemetery, near the office.
There are many headstones and memorials here to those who owned the circus, performed in the circus, trained animals for the circus, and those who rode bulls in the circus and rodeo. There are several famous burials here, including Lane Frost, on whose life the movie "8 Seconds" was based.
Many of the headstones and memorials have beautiful etchings that depict the job or talent of the deceased. On the north edge of Showman's Rest are several pillars about 4 ft. tall that have an elephant sitting on the top. One has the following words:
