The quilt pattern is referring to the nearby railroad bridge over the Holston River which was actively attacked and defended during the US Civil War.

The Railroad Crossing quilt pattern consists of half square triangles in crossing diagonals. For this block, two shades of blue, white, and yellow were used. The design was chosen because of the nearby iron railroad bridge which was a battle site during the US Civil War.

While the address is 3196 W. Old Andrew Johnson Highway Strawberry Plains,TN, the quilt block is on a small house out back which is best seen from Big Bend Road - still at a distance away.
