Army Sgt. Deon L. Taylor, 30, was killed in action in Afghanistan when the Humvee he was riding in was hit by a roadside bomb. It was his second deployment to Afghanistan. He is survived by his 8-year-old son, DaRue, and his fiancée, Caitlin Casey, who lives in Springfield, MA.

Sgt. Taylor born in the Bronx and graduated from Old Westbury College on Long Island with a degree in criminology. He joined the New York City Transit Police and was later promoted to the police narcotics division in Brooklyn. He was serving in Afghanistan with the New York National Guard as a fire direction specialist.

The plaque depicts the seal of the United States Army and a New York City Police Department badge and is inscribed:
