The memorial takes the form of a monolithic cairn built of worked stone blocks. On the front face is a marble table inset to the stone face. The marble tablet contains the names of the fallen. The whole monument is surrounded by railings.

The inscription reads

ERECTED

BY THE PARISHIONERS

IN EVERLASTING MEMORY

OF THE MEN

OF HENHAM

WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES

IN THE DEFENCE

OF THIS COUNTRY

IN THE GREAT WAR

A.D. 1914 – 1918

The War Memorial was unveiled on 6 March 1921 by Sir W Foot Mitchell M.P. There are photographs of the unveiling and the Order of Service on the local history website.

According to the Essex Countryside publication, the memorial was known as the Henham Snowman and china replicas were once sold in the Post Office.
