Mill D North is located 9.6 miles up Big Cottonwood canyon. The trailhead and parking area on highway 190 is about 30 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. There are two high mountain lake that can be accessed from this trailhead, Dog Lake is 2.6 miles, and Desolation Lake is 3.5 miles up the trail. The elevation gain to Dog Lake is 1,500 feet and to Desolation Lake is 1,900 feet. Both destinations make for a great day hike in the beautiful Wasatch Cache National Forest.
