On the grounds of St. Mary's church in Newington there is a convent for the Sisters of Mercy. Above the middle of five windows on the right hand side of the building is a coat of arms for, surprizingly, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur founded by St Julie Billiart.

According to the website for the Notre Dame School in San Jose:

The Shield - Symbolizes protection and faith.
The Three Stars - Symbolize the Blessed Trinity.
The Cross - Expresses the love of God as reveled in life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Letters N.D. - Stand for Notre Dame.
The Crown - Surmounting the shield symbolizes sovereignty, loyalty, and victory. It is the crown of eternal life.
The Rose - Expresses hope and love.
The Lily - Expresses purity and innocence.

The inscribed motto is in French and somewhat garbled.
It reads: Amquilest bon le bon Dieui

it should read: Ah! qu'il est bon le bon Dieu!
translation: How good is the good God!
