This bust of Mars is located in the Art Institute of Chicago (coordinates are for the Institutes' Michigan Avenue entrance.)

The accompanying placard reads:

Hardly distinguishable from the Greek god Ares, Mars
was the Roman god of War. This head is, in fact, probably,
acopy by a Roman sculptor of a colossal statue of Ares
made by the mid-fourth-century B.C. Greel sculptor
Leochares, which stood in the god's temple in Asia Minor.
Here the stern-faced god wears a magnificent helmet
decorated in relief, with griffins over his forehead and,
on each cheek guard, an armed image of Cupid, the god of
love. In Roman religion, Mars was closely associated with
Cupid's mother, Venus, who, like the Greek Aphrodite,
was the goddess of love."

The planet Mars is often referred to as The Red Planet since it has a reddish appearance...and perhaps that is why it was named after the God of War. Mars is probably more similar to earth than any of the other planets of our solar system. Mars' two moons are named Phobos and Deimos who were the sons of Ares...
