Columbus Crater is a very large basin crater, 60 miles in diameter. It's located in the southern hemisphere of Mars. The crater dates back to Mars' Noachian epoch, a warm, wet period that lasted from about 4.6 to 3.5 billion years ago. It is considered the best place to study the chemistry of "fossil lakes" on Mars.

The statue of Cristoforo Columbo was placed in the South End of Springfield by the United Italian American Clubs and Societies of Greater Springfield.
