The "Monument to American Flyers" in Dwingeloo (Westerveld Municipality) was established in memory of five U.S. soldiers who were killed during World War II.

On January 11, 1944 collapsed in the meadow behind the monument down an American bomber. The aircraft was shot by German night fighters. In addition, five of the ten crew members killed.

The "Monument to American Flyers" in Dwingeloo (Westerveld Municipality) is a Norwegian rock of granite, where a black impala-granite plaque was placed. The boulder is surrounded by a low, square hedge.

The plaque lists the following text.

On January 11, 1944 are collapsed U.S. B-24 Liberator bomber "The Prodigal Son" down which the crew members listed below were killed:

Harold E. White
Jim Biggerstaff
Raymond L. Thurber
Harvey E. Smith
Willard R. Malwitz

The monument is located on the corner Holtien / Dwingelerveld current in Dwingeloo (Westerveld Municipality).

The creation of the memorial was initiated by the Stichting Dwingels Eigen.
The monument was unveiled in 1990.

Het 'Monument voor Amerikaanse Vliegers' in Dwingeloo (gemeente Westerveld) is opgericht ter nagedachtenis aan vijf Amerikaanse soldaten die hier tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog zijn gesneuveld.

Op 11 januari 1944 stortte in het weiland achter dit monument een Amerikaanse bommenwerper neer. Het toestel was aangeschoten door Duitse nachtjagers. Daarbij kwamen vijf van de tien bemanningsleden om het leven.

De plaquette vermeldt vermeld de volgende tekst:

Het monument is geplaatst op de hoek Holtien/Dwingelerstroom in Dwingeloo (gemeente Westerveld).

De oprichting van het gedenkteken was een initiatief van de Stichting Dwingels Eigen.
Het monument is onthuld in 1990.
