This historical World War I artillery cannon was missing for 35 years after a prank when some youngsters stole the cannon. It was returned to the Waynesville Town Square and a dedication ceremony was held 12/3/2010, in front of the Pulaski County Museum (the old 1903 Pulaski County Courthouse).

Presiding Commissioner Don McCulloch said he was contacted by the family of a local businessman who wanted to return the cannon. The cannon, which was damaged as a result of the prank, was restored by local businessman Luther Thomas, who has since died. It as Thomas’ family that contacted the Commissioner to return the cannon to the Courthouse. The Commissioner said a concrete slab with special fasteners secure the cannon now; so it “doesn’t get away again.”
