Het gedenksteken is Karel Laloo een beelhouwer die werkte in het atelier van Pickery. Hij maakte verschillende oorlogsmonumenten.
Ze werden beschreven als ruw expressieve mannelijke uitbeeldigen.
Het beeldhouwwerk steld een soldaat voor die een gesneuveld burger ondersteunt. De militair als beschermer van het volk.
