The UBC tower is the 28th tallest building in Chicago. Some more interesting facts about the UBC Tower.
  • The pre-stressed cable system holding the glass panels of the lobby in place has been tested at suction pressures exceeding 150 psf, equivalent to a wind speed of 250 mph.
  • The building's east profile is staggered, with setbacks at floors 19 and 34 corresponding with the heights of the elevator banks.
  • The adjacent sidewalks are extensively landscaped, with 3 fountains on Franklin Street and large granite planters on Madison.
  • One North Wacker was renamed in mid-construction when the Swiss bank UBS AG/Brinson Partners Inc. leased 451,395 ft².
  • Topped out on April 10, 2001.
  • A 40' ultra-transparent wall encloses the lobby with 5'x5' glass panes hanging on a web of cables and medallions. This is the first use of such a system in the U.S.
  • During construction the metal surfaces of the facade were sealed for protection with a cobalt-blue film, which was peeled off upon completion.
  • The glass panels used in the lobby have a surface reflectivity of less than 1%, in contrast to normal glass which has a reflectivity of about 7%. This allows more light into the building even when the sky is overcast.
