The Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) is a superb example of Venetian Gothic architecture. It's the most famous secular building in Venice.

The Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) is a gothic palace in Venice, Italy. Its located in the Piazza San Marco or St. Mark's Square. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the Republic of Venice. It was onstructed between 1309 to 1424, the designer was most probably Filippo Calendario.
It addition to being the residence of the Doge, the palace also served as the senate house, administrative center, hall of justice, public archive and prison up until the fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797. When a new prison was built across the Rio de Palazzo from the palace it was connected to the palace by the famous Bridge of Sighs.
