Records show that there was a clerk within the manor of Sacombe in 1086, indicating the presence of a church. The first recorded rector was in 1217. The oldest parts of the church, the chancel and the nave, date to the Early English Period (1189-1280).

The South tower was rebuilt and a vestry added in 1855-6. The walls were faced with flint at that time and the church re-roofed. A plaque in chancel records
