In Marlborough - by the Framingham line, within Callahan State Park, you can walk through several miles of trails through woods and gently sloped hills. Such a walk may remind you of traveling on an adventure, possibly with friends. Be careful and pay attention to the maps or you could easily be turned around (we did!!) or even become lost! Coyotes are known to inhabit the area, so best not be in the woods after dark.

You might have heard of places to stay at this park, expecially a secluded place by a pond, on the west side along a trail known as the Pine Tree Loop. Coming to the location, however, you will find that no such place exists. All that remains is a stone fireplace and chimney. You may wonder who might have been there before. Was it a tavern with an innkeeper who would have welcomed travelers with a warm meal and mead, but didn't notice that an untended fire had let sparks fall on drapes? Was it a monsterous form, such as a troll or a goblin who went on a tirade and beat the house down? Or was one of the little pigs who had built his house of wood and was blown down by the wolf? Or was it an old cabin where hikers could have rented for a night? No history has been found to enlighten us.

The fireplace is about 5 ft wide and 3 ft high, and the chimney is about 9 ft high.

To access the chimney, there are several entrance points, some with parking areas. The closest is along Edmunds Road in Framingham.
