The upping stone is outside a house built in 1772-1774 when horses and carriages were normal transportation.

The house was built by William Corbit, a properous tanner, during 1772-1774 with design similar to those he saw in Philadelphia. The upping stone appears to be by the business door on the house versus the more formal on the other side.
