Until ten years ago, this building has always been occupied by a bank until it was no longer practical and since converted into an antique shop. Without the telltale date stone, one might not realize this used to be a bank.

I first discovered this was a bank because of a date stone high up on the right side or east side of the bank. The date stone is a square white stone with a brick border and some other white stone shaped like brick thrown in on the 45 degree angles on all four corners. The stone is about a square foot or so and reads

F. & M.
Bank
1910.

The building is a red-bricked beaut, overlooking the Lincoln Highway and located in the center of town, at the town's rotary. The building is now housing Center Square Antiques. It is quite large. I had a nice conversation with the owner who explained the story to me. The last bank was something called CCNB which was bought out by PNC Bank. PNC never did anything with the property because they could not fit in a drive through and as far as they were concerned it was an obsolete, old-fashioned vestige of a long ago age. They wanted modern and, it being a walk up bank, had no value for them so they sold it to the current owners 10 years ago. There have been many other banks in between the original and last.
