La Mesa is a small city of about 55,000 located just east of San Diego.

"On January 1, 2010, the Cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, and Lemon Grove entered into a joint exercise of powers agreement for management and delivery of fire protection and emergency medical services. The City of La Mesa Fire Department consists of three stations housing three engine companies:

Station 13

Paramedic medical transport services are provided by a private contractor through American Medical Response.

The fire department has 52 budgeted positions. As a cost-saving measure we are currently using a constant staffing model which employs 46 personnel to provide a variety of services to the citizens of La Mesa."
