This great compass medallion is based on the compass points of Lewis and Clark’s original expedition maps. It is part of the “Corps of Discovery” display at this rest stop.

This compass medallion is located on the floor of the entry into the information center facilities at the southbound rest stop. It is just one of the displays which highlight the Lewis and Clark expedition which passed through this area in 1804.

Other features in the “Corps of Discovery” display include tile murals inside the building that depict the expedition, artistic canoe seating along the sidewalk, and the terra cotta relief sculptures which adorn on the exterior of the building. The rest stop is on the southbound side of Interstate 29 just south of exit 141 at Sergeant Bluff, IA.
