Located near the entrance of the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building, this marker reads:

"ARTHUR A. DENNY
IN HIS LOG CABIN HOME ON
THIS SPOT OPENED THE FIRST POST
OFFICE OF SEATTLE
AUGUST 27, 1853.

This Tablet was Erected by the Washington
University State Historical Society...
November 13, 1905"

Denny was present at the founding of the City of Seattle. He later served as Postmaster and was the city's wealthiest citizen. He also served 9 terms in the Territorial Legislature.
