There is a standing stone on display in a permanent exhibition of the history of the parish in Llanbadarn Church. Along with an early Chiristian cross, also on display, they are the only pre-Norman relics which have survived in the church at Llanbadarn Fawr.

They once stood in the churchyard on the south side of the church until 1916 when they were brought inside and placed in the south transept. Prior to that they stood up at the nearby Llanbadarn Fach, a ancient Celtic hill fort on the nearby Pen-dinas. They were moved to their present position in 1987. (The exhibition was officially opened on St Padarn's Day, 15th April, 1988, by Most Rev. George Noakes, Bishop of St. Davids and Archbishop of Wales.)

Precise dating of the crosses is difficult, but it is now believed that they may well be pre-Christian standing stones. The large standing stone is made from granite, possibly from the Llyn Peninsula, and is one of only a few Welsh standing stones to include figurative carving as well as the typical interlacing which was developed by the Christian Celts.

A quote from the church information on the 13c Church it now stands in - "Its cruciform plan and large central tower reflect its importance as the mother church of what was then the largest parish in Wales."

With thanks to the information boards in Llanbadarn church for the information on the Celtic stone and the nearby early christian cross to show the period before and after Christianisation of the area.
