There has been a hostelry on this site from about the middle of the 19th century, the publican in 1851 being one Thomas Nash. Up until 1964 the hostelry was owned by the Bunting family. Originally the name was the Three Horseshoes, up until the early twentieth century.

The sign features a coach and horses. The faces of the passengers are apparently taken from villagers, past and present, and the original paintings by Gill Potter can be seen hanging in the public bar.
